Their objective is to clearly define the safety requirements to be considered in architectural and engineering projects, as well as during the supervision and execution of works, and also in the safety management of buildings during their operation.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eRegarding safety signage, Technical Note no. 11 (relating to safety signage) and Technical Note no. 22 (referring to emergency plans) have been published.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eTechnical Note no. 11 aims to \"specify the general criteria for safety signs in SCIE, listing the mandatory signs according to RT-SCIE and presenting applicable solutions.\" It also defines the characteristics, fixing methods, location, and use of the signs. These principles are based on widely recognized international standards, such as ISO, UNE, and DIN.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAll signage described herein is mandatory in all types of buildings, except residential buildings (UT I).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eCharacteristics\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eSafety signs are distinguished by their shape and color, according to the information they are intended to convey. For example, red and square or rectangular signs indicate alarm and fire-fighting equipment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThese concepts, established by ISO 3864, have long been used in Portugal.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAs for the materials of the signs, they must be rigid, photoluminescent, and not contain radioactive substances. NT 11 defines the minimum requirements for luminous intensity (at 10 and 60 minutes) and stipulates that the signs must remain visible for 3,000 minutes, according to the values of UNE 23035, met by brands such as Sinalux.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAccording to UNE 23035, ISO 16069, and DIN 67510 standards, NT 11 requires that each sign mentions the manufacturer's name or brand and indicates the minimum luminance values:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cul\u003e\n\n\u003cli\u003e\n\n\u003cstrong\u003eX\u003c\/strong\u003e - Luminous intensity at 10 minutes: 210 mcd\/m²\u003c\/li\u003e\n\n\u003cli\u003e\n\n\u003cstrong\u003eY\u003c\/strong\u003e - Luminous intensity at 60 minutes: 29 mcd\/m²\u003c\/li\u003e\n\n\u003cli\u003e\n\n\u003cstrong\u003eZ\u003c\/strong\u003e - Sign autonomy: 3000 minutes\u003c\/li\u003e\n\n\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThus, the sign must display: \"210 \/ 29 - 3000\".\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThis marking aims to protect the consumer, allowing identification and accountability of the manufacturer, and ensuring that the signs comply with the requirements of the NT, just as with manufacturer identification on fire extinguishers and lamps.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eFixing and Location\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eNT 11 defines four types of fixing: single face parallel to the wall, two perpendicular or suspended faces, and panoramic format.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe NT also specifies that signs should be placed between 2.1m and 3.0m in height, and may exceed this range if necessary to ensure good visibility.
